Why Is Rachel Maddow Leaving MSNBC?

Rachel Maddow, the host of the Emmy Award-winning “The Rachel Maddow Show” on MSNBC is seriously considering leaving the network.

The liberal political commentator and host’s contract end early next year and negotiations have been carried out so far.

She serves as the cable network’s special event co-anchor alongside Brian Williams, who announced he’s leaving the network and MSNBC’s 11 p.m. hour at the end of the year.

The star host, Rachel has occasionally entertained other offers in the past and has increasingly expressed openness to exiting when her deal ends, mentioning a desire to spend more time with her family.

Maddow has been intrigued by opportunities in the streaming and podcasting space. This will allow her to have more freedom, time for her personal life, and for other projects.

So we may not see her when MSNBC viewers tune in next year.

So far nothing has been decided yet but she still has an excellent relationship with them.

Among the candidates to replace Rachel Meadow, Ali Velshi is one of the choices to step in.

He has occasionally filled in for Brian Williams over the years and is Rachel’s primary substitute host and an MSNBC veteran reporter.

Another strong candidate could be Steve Kornacki, who was among Williams’ top substitute hosts last year.

Nicolle Wallace might be the one to substitute Rachel. She has become one of the most popular personalities on the network in recent years.

Although there also has been speculation that Maddow might not leave the channel altogether.

She is reported to have signed a new long-term deal with NBCUniversal in August, one that will see her develop other types of content and programming for MSNBC and other NBCU channels and platforms.

Where Is Rachel Maddow Going?

Recent news suggests that she is staying at MSNBC but not in the same role she has held for the past thirteen years.

Although she also mentioned spending more time with her family not much is known at the moment.

In the negotiation, it is said that Maddow is staying home where she belongs with a much broader deal at NBCUniversal and couldn’t be happier.

But the agreement indicates that she will continue to host “The Rachel Maddow Show” weeknights at 9 pm ET for the time being. Though that’s not the long-term plan.
