Gregory McMichael and his wife Leigh McMichael were present in the court during the verdict. He was found guilty of murder and other charges on November 24. 

McMichael, his son Travis, and their neighbor William were all charged with the killing of Ahmaud Arbery. He was jogging in Brunswick, Georgia, when he was shot and killed on February 23, 2020.

It took over two months for the police to arrest them and the neighbor who filmed the death. The racially charged case drew national attention, and the community celebrated when the three men were found guilty of the murder.

McMichael is married and has two kids with his partner. His wife’s name is Leigh McMichael. She previously worked as a nurse at a hospice facility.

Gregory was known as a respected model tenant and veteran of law enforcement in the community. He served with the Glynn County Police Department for seven years and Brunswick Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office as an investigator for 20 years. 

Leigh testified on behalf of her son and husband. She was visibly crying during the trial, and Travis mouthed “love you” to his mother. She sat in the courtroom gallery where her face was red with tears. 

After the verdict, attorney Laura Hogue hugged McMichael’s wife and his daughter. Laura tried comforting Leigh and her daughter, both of whom were devasted by the verdict. 

Their daughter, Lindsey, posted a disturbing picture of the victim’s body lying on the ground on Snapchat.

Gregory McMichael Family Details Revealed

McMichael was living with his family in a local community of Brunswick, Georgia.

Gregory’s current age is 65 years. His son, Travis McMichael, is 35 years old. Travis used a racial epithet directed at Arbery as he was laying on the ground.

The lawyers for Ahmaud’s family called the murder a “modern-day lynching,” and McMichael’s lawyers argued that while trying to make a citizen’s arrest, the men were trying to defend themselves, reports BBC.

Several members of his family were also present during the trial, including his daughter, Lindsey McMichael.

Gregory McMichael Found Guilty of Murdering Ahmaud Arbery

McMichael, his son, and their neighbor were arrested in May last year. The two men face nine charges including, aggravated assault and murder, whereas Bryan is found guilty of all charges except one count of aggravated assault and malicious murder.

The men are indicated on separate federal charges including, attempted kidnapping and hate crime.

They face up to life in prison and are expected to stand trial in February, reports The New York Times.
